Prelude : Yeah, this posting is on the review of the film which was released recently but then, I am enjoying the nice coincidence on the meaning of the title of the film & relevance for me today ;
I am leaving chennai for a (fortnight long) tour within next 6 hours or so....
Dear All
What is the difference between God (if any) and a Man (I mean all of us) ?
When we see a particular category of films which simultaneously talks about different people / situations in an inter-woven screen play, I get reminded about this essential question.
Lemme come back to this question at the end of the post after recording my impression about my experience about this film - which we saw couple of days back.
Basically, a malayalam remake movie - this film belongs to the category of thrillers where the film is quite absorbing with nice screen play coupled with wonderful editing methods.
The magazines have rightly praised the film for the quality of making and above that the central message of the film on the need of donation of vital organs (in this film, heart).
Though it contains an array of characters, Prakashraj, in his typical style steals the show along with a nice contribution from Mrs and Mr Sarath Kumar. There is a wonderful drama of emotions - like empathy and reformation - which is depicted in the stories of Cheran and Prasanna.
The elements of thrill and suspense when the Police Jeep (containing the pulsating heart which is taken for transplantation) vanishing suddenly and the subsequent scenes have been handled by the director with tremendous amount of clarity and experience.
The most moving scene - as far as I am concerned - was the one where Cheran commits to Sarath about the secured handing over of Prasanna.
Considering his own longing to prove his worth after a personal humiliation, Cheran understandably develops empathy towards Prasanna who was messing up his personal life out of his confused state of mind. Without spoiling the story line's grip, Prasanna too cooperates with Cheran (and with the Director too ?? - just kidding) and starts giving his fullest support.
There are cinematic elements too where the Police Jeep had to travel in a crowded part of the suburbs of Vellore before reaching the hospital. The unruly looking fans of Surya take control over the traffic management and give their support on the personal call of their super hero. I do not want to dwell too much on the "ifs" and "buts" which come to my mind on such scenes .... as there is no point to get entangled in such cinematic scene of a good quality cinema - that is quite rare in tamil.
After all the original malayalam cinema is based on a true story - so lets not be critical about such minor blots - particularly when the film talks about a good cause....Huh ?
Well, coming back to the first line of this posting - as I was walking out of the theatre swimming amidst the rest of human beings like me, I was thinking for an answer to the question; it flashed up in my mind before even I reached the vehicle parking area.
Such films give us a "God like" experience - enabling us to look at various things happening simultaneously....in a way. Yes ??
In our practical lives when we struggle so much to handle our lives and situations (which is just one aspect / angle of the total humanity), such films "seemingly" give us the extra ordinary feeling of able to develop a distance from the multitude of characters and their woes.....and transcend the time and space factors.
But then, this is only for a brief period of time and more importantly I doubt if we becoming really "God Like" - and reach His omni-presence even during the film experience.
For example, we are really not aware if due to the traffic controls, any other lesser mortal had to sacrifice his life which was left uncovered by the film director.(Technically possible, right ??)
My basic point perfectly gels with the statement pronounced by Actor Vijay Kumar who played the role of the chief of the Chennai Hospital.
"If this operation- meaning the transport of the heart by roadways - fails due to unavoidable reasons, it becomes yet another day for chennai. In case the operation succeeds, it will be an unforgettable milestone not for medical history but also for chennai city".
(It was good that Sarath - who enacted the Commissioner of Traffic police, chennai - uses the same mantra to inspire his team in the emergency meeting that he calls for....
Golden words need to be repeated - if it will create the desired impact)
Bull's eye........!!
YES, the omni-presence of the God can be better appreciated as he is there (at least for God Believers) even on normal days.
Such cinemas - however realistic they are directed doesn't matter really - only focus on special days as the normal days does not commercially count much for them.....
See you after a fortnight.....Bye for now...
