Dear All
When I started walking at my favorite park - 3 months back, one striking thing that pierced my eyes was the different types / age groups of walkers and the varying fitness levels.
In fact for the first few days me too was a guy who used to be overtaken by so many people and it was a perfect indicator of my stamina condition at that point time.
Gradually as my fitness level increased, I too turned to be a over-taker and over a period of time, I had become one of the briskest during the entire walking duration. The lightness of the body started speaking for itself and I started moving in the pavement like a whirlwind steering my way among-st the rest of slow paced walkers.
There is one distinct wisdom that I got now which I can say with lot of authenticity and conviction - there can't be and ever can be an competition to us which can be outside of us.
This truth got verbalized within me with every passing day as I keep overtaking people; Of course there were instances when few young boys with athletic bodies surpassing me once a while giving more weight to my wisdom.
Unless we turn inward and start taking goals for ourselves, our souls will never get settled and we can focus on subtler aspects of life.
There were times when I had focused on overtaking a particular group of walkers who were fifty meters away from me (that too) before a particular point of time and had done it most of the times - only to feel a vacuum bit later.......
To avoid monotony, some resort to chatting with their partners, few listen to music and most of the people glued to their cell phones. But for me - since my first day of walking, none of these support mechanisms were needed. Any way it was a joyous affair and as the walking sessions turned out to meditation sessions with the awareness about the mild pain in the calf muscles......
The only way I discovered to keep up my passion with some tangible goals was to beat my earlier bests and could see it was pointless to seek a competitor outside of us......
Well, today I was back to the park after my 15 days of outstation visit; I could clearly see that my stamina levels had declined substantially though I managed to sweat out for close to 45 minutes. Though I wanted to, I could not manage the rigorous walks during my out station stay with hectic schedule leaving not much stamina to walk in the evening.
Never mind....as like Snake and the Ladder game - I will raise again in my stamina level slowly and steadily and start walking like a whirlwind before this Friday - for sure.
This interesting game of self competition is too enticing and exciting too.
In the crowded park, when we realize that we are only competing with ourselves and not with the sea of mankind - that could become a defining moment for lesser mortals like us.
