Today is Mahatma Gandhi's death anniversary.
I have heard from many people that he is out-dated. I don't have any plausible arguments with few others who feel that what Gandhi did which led to partition is not at all correct. But then, he always had been an idol for me emotionally more than any logical reason.
One big reason was the Cinema Gandhi which was one of the high budget film that India saw during eighties; Another reason is Nasrudheen Shah's portrayal of Gandhiji's Character in Hey Ram. Of course, I have read his autobiography too at very young age (more than once).
This man has walked his talk and naturally is remembered even after sixty and odd years from the date of his demise. (In fact I feel the way he was dead goes as a feather in his cap and has etched few people like me under his charisma).
Well, there was a wonderful article in THE HINDU today which briefs Mahatma's stay at chennai two years before his demise. It appears he had a 10 day visit to Tamil Nadu and had taken care to visit Palani and Madurai to see our famous temples in those towns. He had stayed at Hindi Prachar Sabha buildings at T Nagar (Two km from my home, you know ...pretty close).
Well, it appears he has also visited a school nearby in T.Nagar and in the Guest Register he had written pleasantries in Gujarati. This fact surprised me as I thought logically he should have written in English or at least in Hindi. Was he a language fanatic ? Huh....
Let him be.......To me he is a Mahatma....Nothing More .....and Nothing Less.
Long live his glory and Wide Spread his message.....
