Dear All
I was fortunate to watch Bala's new film "Paradesi" today.
This is indeed a rare thing for me (watching the film on the first day itself) ; Before this, I had watched only "Devar Magan" which was two decades back....
In fact I was slightly disappointed to see that - though the theatre was house full - there was utter silence from the first slide of the film as if ....the entry was "restricted".... :-)
Then I realized the niche that Bala has carved for himself in the past 15 years.....and this is to be expected.....!!
Well, there could be tons of words already in the blogs and twitters about this newly released film and enough of reviews done by a wide range of people - from intelligentsia to common man.
For my own queer reasons and strange logic, I am neither going to utter a single word in the nature of review about the film nor get into any details.
As I was sitting shell shocked after the abrupt ending of the film in the theater - little realizing that all except me have already lined up to leave, there was a complete silence in my mind which was transported to a different era altogether.....
Recently I had also seen "Viswaroopam" (no no...I am not getting into comparison mode please....) in which I vividly recall the first slide where Kamal forewarns on some of the tragedies are real life ones....and calls for "brave hearts" to watch and enjoy the film.
Bala is bit discourteous in this film....!! With lot of audacity he goes on with his story telling (reportedly with facts) which is definitely depressing for entertainment seeking people.
It is as if he is so clear what he wants to say and how to narrate it ...and seems to have a firm conviction that the audience will be with him. I particularly love the abrupt manner he ends his films (like "Naan Kadavul" too) seeming to tell us that his intention is not to tell a story but to inject us some intense feeling...nothing more ...nothing less....!!
The music and camera has supported Bala's creativity with a great sense of responsibility and the second half of the film soars high and intense with these two aspects never letting down this Director with a Vision.....
To give company to my little daughter I had patiently sat thru' films like - Boss engira Baskaran, OKOK and so on.....and have developed an empathy for the need of mass entertainers...
(at least till my little one gets ready for such intense movies and shuns away from typical entertainers and so called comedy movies).
But then, I also sincerely wish that there are such quality films that keep coming once a while to balance out things at AGANDAM....!! I only wish this film is respected by sufficient number of people so that Bala gets enthused for his next venture.
Please watch it in big screen only.
I only wish Bala keeps on further maturing with his new ventures and make us all proud by becoming ULAGA NAYAGAN......!!
Warm Regards // Suren
