Aashiki - 2 :: A Film Review

Dear All

After a long time....such a long time, I saw a Hindi Movie which I have been wanting to see for two reasons. One is obvious - this hindi film will test my vocabulary of the language (I had no sub titles), second one is more out of curiosity because Little Madhoo had recommended this one.

Imagine this little girl had so much inferiority complex about her Hindi Skills 3 years back,  has come a long way by clearing Hindi Prachar Sabha Exams and has graduated herself to see this film without our involvement, through her school network.

First thing first, I doubt if this film can be enjoyed by all. Its not for the people who synthesize every thing in terms  of right and wrong AND quite eager to offer their recommendation on how film should be made. If some one is looking for experiencing the play of emotions of the two main characters, they are bound to get dissolved into the film.

I have not seen Aashiki which released in 80's - perhaps the earlier film was also music based. This film resembles grand old cinemas of 50s when for every five minutes you have a song sung. But I had a feeling that its the same song sung through out the film at various emotions. In short music binds the story.

Yes, Music is just a binding force but the story is about human ego and ways of handling / applying it in lives in various circumstances - ups and lows.

Perhaps there are people who feel the end is tragic but fully dissolved with the story - I felt it was perfect ending with a tinge of sorrow.

After all the story starts with the Hero proclaiming that he has found a "super star" considering higher than himself when he was a singer at the peak himself. If the Heroine's efforts to repair the situation and bring back life and vigor to her drunkard husband, perhaps it is one more assertive story of Love and power of positive thinking.

The fresh faces of the Hero and Heroine will linger my mind for very long time. One more good film seen very late......hmmmm.......

***** Gowrishankar *********

Dear All

Today is the Birthday of Gowrishankar, one of my first cousin.

Considering the multitude of cousins that have - in both sides - I disdainfully used the phrase "one of the"...What to do....? Languages are many a times deceptive.

Being closely knitted family, all of us have been knowing all others quite well, but me (and of course my brother Rajoo) have the privilege of looking at one more dimension of Gowri - as he is affectionately called.

Being a constant counselor for me during  my low times, I have seen he minces no words when it comes to giving right advice, has both the courage and liberty to call a "spade", a spade but it never hurts.

Particularly in my recent health debacle episode, he was my constant companion and was part and parcel of my hallucinations. I still remember few instances which were real and true incidents that made me believe that few of the hallucinations episodes were real too.....Is it too confusing ? skip it.....I would prefer to come out of  it. (Forgot to tell, one more addition to my Shelf is a majestically smiling Lakshmi Narasimhar's photo whom I stare few seconds at least daily - this Gentle God landed into my lap (or me into him) from no where during this physical sickness .....sorry I lost track....

As I mentioned in earlier para, me and Rajoo have the privilege of looking at LakshmiNarasimhar (Oops .... sorry..... hmmmm .;...in a way its alright) Gowri's official image. I personally have seen his subordinates simply love him as much as they fear him. I particularly admire the manner he welcomes the new comers to the team AND makes them feel at ease - as he typically does at Ayodhya.......I mean, his den.

Since younger, I am not going to bless him but will pray for his good health and strong personality  - more than for him - for the people around him.
